v. 13-35
Jesus isn’t trying to be tricky or play any jokes, He is
simply trying to see where His disciples were at on a belief level. Over the
past few hours they had been being tested, tested on what amount of faith they
had that Jesus’ words were in fact true. He gave them “small” signs to start
off with and then they got progressively larger until He ended up walking along
side of them and telling them the story and flat out revealing Himself to them
face to face. (Luke 17:6)
He was testing them in order to teach them in totality.
They were going out from Jerusalem to share about who Jesus
was, but they didn’t quiet know. They were full of excitement to share but
Jesus had more training for them. (This is supported by the fact that Jesus
tells them to wait for the Spirit.)

“Luke said that their eyes were opened (passive voice, cf.
v. 16). Someone did it
for them. Clearly God gave them understanding. God is the
One who reveals His Son to people by His Spirit. In both Luke and Acts the
"breaking of bread" has connections with instruction concerning
Jesus' person and mission.”

*There is no way to understand how great the story of Jesus
truly is without reading the Scriptures… That is how we figure out who He is. We
simply cannot understand who Christ is with out understanding what the
Scriptures say about Him.
